We listen, we discuss, we advise, and we build.
Altered Interior Associates began in 1998 as an interior design consultancy. Over time we saw that we could add more value for our clients, and keep full control over the quality of the work, if we also built what we designed. So we took on design-and-build projects, and then construction, growing from HDB flats, condominiums and landed houses to commercial spaces across Singapore. Over the years we have been glad to look after many returning clients, and their friends and families.
Beyond the render
Today anyone can produce a beautiful room in minutes. AI can turn a single sentence into a convincing perspective, and that is good for inspiration.
But a picture is not a home. What makes a space work, and keeps it working for twenty years, is everything a render never shows.
How water leaves a bathroom
The fall of the floor tiles, the waterproofing behind the walls, the joint where the shower screen meets the floor.
How carpentry meets the wall
The gap a drawer needs to clear a skirting, the hinge clearance on a full-height door, how a cabinet hides an uneven wall.
Where the services go
A ceiling cove deep enough to hide the aircon trunking, every power point placed before the tiles go up.
What the rules allow
HDB and MCST guidelines on hacking, wet works and working hours shape a design before it is drawn.
How the people work together
Hackers, plumbers, electricians, tilers, carpenters and painters, each arriving in the right order, with the right drawings, and the work checked before the next trade covers it up. Good project management is what turns a design into a home on time, and what keeps the client informed and calm along the way.
These are things you only learn by building, and by seeing how a home holds up years later. After more than 25 years on site, this is the part of our work we are proudest of.
